giving back

Donations
Writers borrow. We don’t steal, we borrow. A fragmented factoid from a reference book here, a little piece of someone’s life there. It makes up for all the different lives we don’t have time to live on our own. But, as is the way with borrowing, there comes a time when the writer has to give it all back – so a part of the proceeds of each book sold are going to charity. It’s just good karma. You can have good karma too. Bellow is information on various organizations that need your help. Even if it’s only five bucks, someone, somewhere will find a good way to use it. Better than blowing it on that box of cookies your waistline doesn’t really need...

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
It’s all in the name, isn’t it? “The saint of lost and hopeless causes,” the call him. This famed research hospital (yes, the one you see in those tragic specials on TV… Like a car wreck, you just have to stop and watch) works tirelessly to treat and develop new cures for children with cancer and other catastrophic illnesses. Most importantly, they never turn a family away for their inability to pay. Lets keep it this way. Medical care shouldn’t be something for the wealthy class only, and living to see your sixteenth birthday should be either. Donations can be automatic, monthly payments or one-time gifts.

The Human Rights Campaign
From their website: “The Human Rights Campaign is an organization of people – a grassroots force of more than 650,000 individuals of every description, joined together in common purpose. Our strength is a direct reflection of the willingness of these Americans to become personally involved in the fight for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality. Founded in 1980, the Human Rights Campaign (the largest group of it’s kind) effectively lobbies Congress, provides campaign support to fair-minded candidates, and works to educate the public on a wide array of topics affecting GLBT Americans, including relationship recognition, workplace, family, and health issues.”

The Harm Reduction Coalition
At what point do we stop being human? At what point to we stop deserving care, compassion and medical assistance? According the Harm Reduction Coalition, the answer is “never.” From their website: “It is clear that most current approaches to drug use and drug-related problems help only a tiny fraction of those individuals who use illicit drugs. HRC believes in every individual's right to health and well-being as well as in their competency to protect and help themselves, their loved ones, and their communities.” Your donations help fund community training programs, needle exchange programs, and Hepatitis/overdose prevention efforts across the nation.

World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA)
Fiction is fiction is fiction is fiction. Definition of fiction? It means its not true. This story and all the artwork associated with it is just that – fiction. I don’t kill birds. I don’t like dead birds. I don’t want anyone else killing birds either. In fact, I’m a vegetarian (over ten years now) and have three wonderful animals that were all shelter rescues. (Molly and Watson are brother and sister pups from the East Valley Shelter in Los Angeles and Mia is a fat hairy housecat from a shelter in Orange County.) They are the lights of my life (except when the cat pisses in my sock drawer) and each have such unique, amazing personalities (except the part where the cat pisses in the sock drawer.) That said, a huge part of me feels insanely guilty for writing and illustrating such a prominent amount of animal death in this project. Help me relieve the guilt. Donate now to WSPA, your local animal shelter or, better yet, ADOPT an animal from your local shelter.
